Welcome To The Magic Castle

September 30th, 2008

It’s exactly a month from Halloween. If you’re looking to spend the holiday somewhere special, what better place to celebrate the magic of Halloween than in the famous Magic Castle. One of the most famous magic clubs in the world, it’s located in Hollywood, California. It hosts nightly performances by the world’s finest magicians. However, the Magic Castle is a private club; only members and their guests are admitted in to attend the club’s performances, though courtesy invitations can be obtained by magicians visiting from out of town. If you want to experience the full magical experience this Halloween, you can stay at the Magic Castle Hotel, an affiliate of Magic Castle. Guests of the hotel can get dinner reservations and are permitted inside the Magic Castle. You’ll also get a chance to dress up since a strict dress code (coat and tie for men, cocktail attire for women) is enforced. For families with kids, you’ll have to schedule your visit since minors are only allowed during Sunday brunch.

The National Air and Space Museum

August 10th, 2008

The National Air and Space Museum is a learning museum located at the National Mall in Washington DC. The museum has 22 galleries and the “Albert Einstein Planetarium”. It presents 2 shows: “The Cosmic Collision” and “The Stars Tonight”. Another Gallery is called “How things fly” and it has a lot of interactive devices for hands-on learning about flying. The Early Flight gallery displays the original 1903 Wright Flyer and 170 other related artifacts. Another gallery named “Exploring the Planets” features the achievements of humankind about planetary explorations, even here on Earth. “Explore the Universe” is a gallery about how humankind observes the starry sky starting with the naked eye, through different primitive telescopes, and then into the digital age full of high powered telescopes. There are still a lot more inside the museum and I recommend this field trip to those who has kids and those who wants to grab some fun with the family.

The Live Music capital of the World” is Austin’s official slogan having a vibrant live music scene with quite a lot of music venues. Austin is the capital of Texas and a breeding place of film, music and multimedia festivals. It is famous for its nightclubs, unconventional lifestyle and diverse beliefs. People in Austin (Austinites) take pride in their eccentricity and diverse culture with a local motto of “Keep Austin Weird.” It is well known for the popular culture and support for local and independent businesses. It has also been a favorite site for several motion pictures partly because of the Department of Radio-Television Film course in The University of Texas at Austin. Museums, art establishments, music centres, zoo, resorts and other tourist attractions are also located all over the city.

Yellowstone National Park is more than just geysers and….geysers. It’s a park! And as park goes there are a lot of things to do around this place.

Golf enthusiasts will have a great time at Yellowstone because it offers scenic golfing. Imagine golfing with such majestic sites around you! It’s got rolling foothills, open greens, amazing wildlife and challenging layouts enough to make serious golfers sweat.

Besides golfing there are other things to do: mountain biking in nearby Teton Valley, skiing and snowboarding around during winter, and whitewater rafting in the Yellowstone River. There’s quite a lot of things to do so stay even after the geysers have done their thing.

Smoky Mountains

April 20th, 2008

smoky.jpg

The Great Smoky Mountains of the Appalachian Mountains looks so mysterious with its mist forming all around the mountain. This phenomenon does have scientific basis: it’s caused by a mixture of naturally formed hydrocarbons and high humidity.

It’s basically a place where you can connect with nature in a myriad of ways. Hikers, canoers, and whitewater rafter enthusiasts can live here for months. It’s also a great place just to drive around in and take in all the views and sights.
A historical place, these mountains is where the Cades Cove Loop calls home. It’s a 7,000-acre valley inhabited by the Cherokee Indians in the past. It also stands as testament to the 19th century pioneers.

The area is known for its green forests, pristine lakes, and fishing . It also has activities that happen all year long. From June to August, you and the family can view the famous turtle races. It happens rain or shine.

The fishing is just heavenly whether it be the ordinary kind or the ice-fishing kind. There’s even a fishing contest held every winter where you stand to win prizes ranging from four-wheeler trucks to $10,000.

Hawaii: Mix the Old and New

April 9th, 2008

Hawaii

The tropics are a nice place to visit in the summer time, however, if you like it near, there’s no better place to go to than Hawaii. The beaches are long and heavenly, the culture is vibrant, and the terrain can go from lush to exotic.

One of its islands called the Waikoloa, has interesting mixes of old-time and modern Hawaii. The traditional part of the island can be seen by going down the beaches of Kohala. This place used to be where the old Kings would rest and relax. On the modern side, you can head over to Kings’ Shops where you’ll find collections of stores, venues for cultural events, and restaurants.

Feeling the Heat? Go to Anchorage!

April 7th, 2008

Chugach Mountains

If you’re feeling the heat as everyone does during this time of the year, maybe it’s time to hop on a plane and go to some place arctic! No, I’m not talking about the North or South Pole, just somewhere near: Anchorage, Alaska!

Located in the South Central area of Alaska, Anchorage boasts of Chugach Mountains, Knik Arm and Turnagain Arm. It also has short, but cool summers with a maximum temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
Besides the cool temperature during summer, tourists may also go to the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum and the Wells Fargo Alaska Heritage Library & Museum. For those who wish to see nature and the wildlife, they can move on over to the Alaska Zoo, Point Woronzof Park and the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.

Florida Keys

April 5th, 2008

Florida Keys

The Florida Keys has something for every type of vacationer.

The regular vacationer can make do with what little time he has. Taking a few days off from your 9-to5 work would do much for your health. You can get more resources and info from your resort to arrange fishing, snorkeling, and diving charters. You can also take part in the nightlife and enjoy the lifestyle of the island marine community. If you’re a group, you can afford to some private islands inside the Keys.

The hardcore vacationer can subscribe to the homely vacation rentals to live life off the island.

Grand Canyon: Whiteriver Rafting

April 1st, 2008

Whiteriver Rafting

Want to experience adventure and take in the sights as well? Then I suggest you go white river rafting down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon.

Be ready to block out a lot of days when you take this adventure as it might require you to spend as much as 6-13 days to complete the Grand Canyon river trip. The shorter trip is a bit harder because you’ll need to do a 5,000 vertical foot hike in or out of the Grand Canyon. For those who wish for a shorter time and less cost, they can try either the Westwater Canyon or Cataract Canyon.
